Student Leaders Relish Leadership Seminar

Twenty-seven leaders of various clubs and organizations of the academy participated on the recently concluded student leaders’ seminar at Original Asin Hot spring resort on October 8 - 10, 2010 with the theme Quality Leadership for Quality Education.

The leaders arrived at the said location 4:30 P.M. and many took the delight to look around and play at the nearby river before pitching their tents and prepare for the vesper meeting. Female students occupied the basement and male students located themselves at the assembly and viewing deck. But later that night due to the rain, those on the viewing deck relocated and joined the others at the assembly area.

On the vesper meeting, Ptr. Max B. Delos Reyes served as the resource speaker where he gave details on the meaning of the theme. He also originated the phrase, “why not?”, to the leaders. It is a term for them to seek opportunities and be optimistic as much as possible. They went to bed 10:00PM that night for them to have enough rest for the Sabbath activities.

Five a.m. the next day, all leaders woke early and prepared for the Sabbath day and be on schedule. According to Mr. Dary G. Fabito, one of the teachers who accompanied the leaders said that there had been no problem in discipline. In fact, all the leaders are very much prepared even before breakfast. No one was late.

Activities that Sabbath morning includes listening to Mrs. Dinah C. Dengay who talked about Leadership Ethics and Ptr. Reuel V. Manlongat who pointed out Successful Bible Characters. Then that afternoon, they were trained to make Project Proposals which was given by Mr. Jones B. Dengay, the Education Director of Mountain Provinces Mission. He also talked about Functions of Officers.

After the training, the leaders had an activity where they can show and share what have they learned during the course of the seminar. The said activity was headed by Mr. Vic Byron D. Zarate. In here, the leaders have to trust their chosen leader to guide them in creating a perfect octagon.

At 5:30 P.M., the leaders committed themselves to God’s service through the special message and prayer of Ptr. Jeramel Dupagan, the stewardship director of Mountain Provinces Mission.

Social games followed that night through the leadership of the fourth year ladies where many of them said that it was the most enjoyable part of the whole activity. All day swimming followed the next day after a short devotional led by Ma. Leticia G. Fabito.

Eight faculty plus supportive parents also joined the said activity. It is worth mentioning that the female teachers served as the cooks of the seminar. The leaders just love their cooking styles which could be proven by their frequent visits on the kitchen between eating times.

The seminar is also the first out-of-the school/MPM leadership seminar the school ever had since 2006.
